From seeds ? Wow, you are extraordinary!
I think I'm doing good when I buy a plant in flower and manage to keep it alive to re-flower the next year.
Beautiful flowers! You must feel especially proud!

Wow! I just got one of these, now I'm really anxious to see it bloom...

What kind of humidity do you keep this in?

Way to go! From seed? Gosh, I'm not that patient!! Stanhopeas in bloom always command attention and tigrina is the king (queen?) of the Stanhopeas. Yours is definitely deserving of the crown, well done!!

What an amazing flower! I see that youre growing them in your house. I have always read that you should grow them in a greenhouse. I am about to get one and was worried about that because i dont have one.

First time forum member -- needing help with Stanhopea tigrina culture. All but two small leaves have fallen off and many new shoots have started but died at 1 - 2 inches tall. I am growing it outside (Stuart, Florida) under a tree and it is still in the plastic basket in which I received it April, 2011. Most of the sphagnum in the basket is green with algae and hard to re-wet when I water the plant. Should I repot it? What to do? Thanks for any advice.

That guy is waaaaaay too dry!!! Stanhopeas should be kept evenly moist at all times (not sopping wet for extended periods though). If the spagnum is crispy, it is too dry. It should always be somewhat spongy and moist. Stan tigrina does have a winter rest, which means that when the new growths are done growing, you can let it dry out more than normal until new growths start growing in the spring. Good luck!
