Default Cochleanthes Moliere 'Cardrona' AM/AOS

This is a really cool plant I picked up last fall at the Susquehanna Orchid Society Fall Orchid Show.
The flowers come out of the base of the pseudobulb like a lycaste.

It is a division of the awarded plant from Stephen Male of the renown Fishings Creek. It received 82 points back in 2006.

He told me it would be easy to grow and he did not lie

Even in the house it was happy...but greenhouse = "happier"

The lip is a rich deep royal purple. The sepals are reflected back more than the single bloom was when I bought it.

I have two blooms on it currently.

The best part of this purchase was talking with Stephen.
The plant is potted in a clay pot with bark mix.
I told him I tend to "over-water" bark and what I could repot the plant in and have it do well.
He told me "just don't over-water it".
Interesting advise which I followed with difficulty and evidently was perfect
Viola!

Great advice, more easily said than done. I'm very heavy handed when it comes to watering, so I adjust and lighten up all my mixes. I just refuse to stop water. lol

It's a beautiful plant, but you posted it in the wrong sub-forum (Cochleanthes are related to zygopetalums, not Stanhopeas. This thread should be in the maxillaria alliance).

Funny, I looked at both of those categories and was not sure. OrchidWiz had it under "Zygos, Lycastes, and Stanhopeas"; so evidently I picked the wrong one
