Default Stanhopea tigrina nigroviolacea 'Predator' FCC/AOS

This is the first of three spikes to open. These flowers are massive! I purchased this one 5 yrs ago. It easily flowers every year for me.

The largest flower has a natural spread of ~ 19 cm. This plant was awarded an FCC/AOS in 1996 with a NS of 17.3 cm! I'm happy!

Those are awesome!!! I bet they make a great display in your backyard.

Moving this to appropriate sub-forum.

Fantastic: I have been pondering whether to get a Predator. Probably will wait though and see how my Mefistole turns out.

If I still had the room, I would definitely add this to my collection! Where did you obtain this beauty?

I have 3 and though they haven't flowered yet I am impressed at how fast they grow and how incredibly thirsty they are!

Amazing flowers....by looking at the size of your plant and how big the leaves are; my Stanhopea is still a seedling....

Your leaves are in such good shape. Mine were black spotted and yellow blotched when I got them, and on one, the new growths are getting it too. I have used bayer 3 in 1 sporadically, but since I'm not sure if I'm dealing with an environmental or a disease problem, I haven't kept up with any regular program. I've read that stanhopea are notorious for ugly leaves. Maybe this is just because so few grow them well.
Also, my one plant has a lot of leafless backbulbs (got it this way). I've had it a couple of years now. Can I remove them and try to get them to generate new plants?
Thanks
Laurel
