all these while i had been dividing catasetum back bulbs by CUTTING them apart but today i bumped into a post of catasetums culture saying the back bulbs should not be cut but rather PULL apart.
did not say the reason behind it but i was wondering anyone had any experience about pulling catasetums back bulbs apart.
even all these while when i purchase bulb cuttings from nursery they also cut the back bulbs apart and not pull them apart.
thanks
Cutting vs. pulling doesn't really make a difference. Pulling is usually good for plants that have many growths that are tangled up, like a large Cattleya or Stanhopea. If you can see exactly where the rhizome is and where all the growths are (like most Catasetinae, even large ones) then cutting works great.
