Temperature for Stanhopea wardii Male
Default Temperature for Stanhopea wardii

Hello all,

I was reviewing the max's and min's for all of my orchids since I have started taking them all outside for the year. However, I'm noticed that Stanhopea wardii's temp's seem to max out in the mid to lo 80's. I was wondering if anyone with experience growing Stanhopea's could tell me if it's safe to have them out during the hot summer days.

Where I live, we commonly stay in the mid to upper 90's and sometimes hit the 100's during the summer months.

I just wanted to be sure I do the correct thing for this one as I just love the flowers (I still have yet to see them on mine though). If I have to bring it in I will do so.

It should be ok. The main thing with orchids is that they can stand hot day time temps if it cools off at night. I would watch your Stan during the hot periods and maybe bring it in at night if you notice ill effects.

Paul - I have been growing Stanhopeas here in Central Fl where the summer temp are in the 90's and even the 100's and have had no problems. I just make sure that they don't dry out and on really hot days I will turn the misters on for short periods to cool them down.
