I have only a Stanhopea occulata that I bought from Andy's Orchids about 10 years ago. It came planted in sphagnum in a basket and has survived all this time on an outside patio in Southern California where temperatures sometimes, very briefly, get as low as freezing. It also at times has been neglected and allowed to dry out. Still it has grown nicely and been repoted twice. It is now in sphagnum in a 12" square basket. It is in my inside conservatory now.
Thanks for your answers guys, I've got a hang of the growing conditions for this type, but I was wondering what is the new growth in the pic that I posted. Any clues?
If the conditions are right the plant should pick up very quickly and you should get lots of new root growth. I got some barerooted new plants 3 weeks ago and they are already are throwing out new roots.
Hi everyone! I just wanted to tell you of may stanhopea. It has 17 new pseudobulbs growing, plenty of new roots, it's doing great! Now i was wondering if it flowers, will it do so after the new bulbs mature, or it can bloom and grow new bulbs at the same time?
Here are some pics
I'm curious as to what spacing did you leave between is wooden section of the basket. Stanhopeas send their spikes from the bottom or sides at times and there need to be some space for them to come out through the basket. If the space is not wide enough they might just get stuck and not bloom.
