Wowza! What a beauty! Five days sounds like a lot for a stanhopea, too.
Thank you. I remember reading your past threads when I was trying to determine what type of media to use. They were very helpful. I didn't have any horse poo on hand so I've been using doses of milorganite instead.
I counted the 5 days from her first opened bloom until fade. All blooms on both spikes opened up rapidly, within 24 hours or so, and all of them were were withered by day 6. By day 8 they were toast. Her new spike is still developing but it looks smaller than the others.
I thought stans were supposed to smell like... you know... unpleasant things.
No way! There is one or two species that don't smell great, but all the commonly grown Stans are absolutely wonderfully scented! Bulbophyllums on the other hand, smell terrible! lol
What a beauty - I've always wanted to try my hand at growing these.
Vanilla and coconut!!??? Nice. Stan. Malibu Seabreeze?

In any event, she's a real looker - nice growing.

Thank you.
The e-bay vendor just described the fragrance as wonderful, which it is. I have read posts from other members describing their blooms as fragrant, but not pleasant. They had completely different plants though.
I hope mine keeps growing because when Stans fill out and bloom they can look quite spectacular. Mine has only 4 leaves now, but it should put out more bulbs within the next few months.
