I just bought a Stanhopea ecornuta. Is anyone else growing one of these? Apparently the flower spikes are quite short and will not grow down through the medium like other Stanhopeas. Should it still be grown in a basket, or can I get away with a standard pot on this one?
It is currently a fairly small seedling, planted in a three inch square pot.
How does the flower spike gets out through the moss or whatever medium it is? do you need to guide it? does it go up first? I am asking because I have a Gongora tricolor from OHG and it came in a plastic pot I have some net pots but the space may be to narrow for the hopefully future spike to get out.... was considering eventually to put it in a steel soap holder...How many growths your nice Stanhopea?
