I have short question to you. What is the best temperature for winter for this species ? If anybody of you cultivate this in higher winter temperatures (about 18C) and have flowers ? Or it won't flower under this kind of winter rest ?

thanks for reply, I found also articles in which author wrote about higher winter temperatures and I wonder if I could have flowers without low temperatures in winter, it is difficult for me to have 10 C

Actually, any of these articles says it must be given a winter rest at 10°C... they all agree that it is a temperate-warm zone plant. However, C&H indicates that a drop in temp helps for blooming and that it can go down to 10°C or lower and the plant would tolerate it!

Keeping in mind that the plant grows in Panama (Tropical America) "in shaded grassland edges and stone outcrops in tropical wet forests at elevations of 100 to 700 meters", I do not think it will need that much cold...

As long as you can keep it dry, I doubt 10-15C will have a negative impact. My fingers are crossed for you!

thanks for reply, in fact it is nor easy for me to keep orchids in 15 C during winter... I have rather 18 C, so my question was if Peristeria will flower if keep in 18C during winter or it is necessary to give it 5 or lower ?

I don't see 18C as that big of a problem to be honest. Most of the reports I've seen of this species tend to be fairly variable and that its natural range is fairly widespread. People here in Hawaii grow and flower them successfully at sea level and we consider a night at between 15-18C to be pretty darn cold and not all that common except for a month or two in winter! I should note that my P. elata's are too small to flower yet, so my advice should be taken with a grain of salt.

my plant is also probably too small for flowering, just two not the largest pseudobulbs and two, which have just started to grow

one more question, if the growers you know cultivate it in full sun ?
