Default Catsm.Sumani (remake)

Hi to all,
My Catsm.Sumani is in spike producing three female flowers
and I need advise from forum members to hybridise with any catasetums.
The problem with my plant is from day two the lip gets reflexed which is not desirable.
regards
veekay

Try spizii or socco.

Unfortunately, this is probably pollen sterile, as saccatum and pileatum have a different number of chromosomes.

Looks great Veekay. Too bad about the reflexed lip, the colors on this one are really nice.

Anything in the pileatum/expansum group has a lot of chromosomes - I count around 80 or so. The rest of Catasetums, clowesia and mormodes are 54, and cycnoches is 68.

The recurving is coming from the saccatum and there is not much you can do about it other than to breed it away from saccatum or incurvum where the lips recurve. Taking it back to pileatum or to expansum might be a nice option as well. The Sumani pollinia should Not be sterile.
