Default Books on Stanhopeas

Was wondering if anyone knew of a book or books specifically about Stanhopeas or Gongoras. I now have several and think it would be a good idea to learn more about the different varieties and their needs.

Thanks.

I believe Rudolph Jenny wrote the "bible" on Stanhopeas. I'm not aware of any book specifically about Gongoras.

Don't forget the "Monograph of the Genus Gongora" by Ruiz and Pavon and Rudolph Jenny's books. These are very taxonomic however, and are great for ID'ing different species, but not so much on their care.

I think the real 'bible' for Stanhopeas (to me) is by Barney Greer and is called "The Astonishing Stanhopeas: The Upside-Down Orchids." It has some really great pics and is more about the care of the different Stans than taxonomic identification.

Thanks for the pointer. Seems the book was updated in 2003, but is currently out of print.

I saw an article mentioning Barney Greer by following the links. Doesn't seem to be available, either.

Keep the ideas coming. Thanks for the replies.

Oh, I also forgot about the Stanhopea Pages: The Stanhopea Pages by Nina Rach, edited January 2010 There are some errors, discrepancies and what not, however, it is a great place to start. Kind of like Wikipedia. Start there, get some ideas and do some research while taking any info from the Stan Pages or Wikipedia with a grain of salt.

Default Stanhopea information

Rudolf Jenny will be releasing an updated monograph on stanhopeas this summer.

See the attachment below.

Also there is a very interesting paper by C.H. Dodson and G.F. Frymire. " Preliminary Studies in The Genus Stanhopea"
You can get a photo copy of this through the inner library loan system.

Jenny's book was launched on friday in Europe at the Peterborough International Orchid show. Peter Jenny was actually there. I had a look through, and if you are a fan of Stanhopea it is a must, despite the price.

I thought about it, but ended up spending the $$$'s on orchids instead

Thanks for the info. Is the book inclusive, i.e covering care, cultivation and history, or just a picture book?

Thanks.
