First time bloomer from the 'dry forest' region of Panama (near Pedasi) and was growing on a friend's tree, so he let me have a small plant growing beneath the mother plant. This area was right on the ocean and there were tons of Brassavola nodosa in the trees nearby. Unfortunately, the high winds right now blew the spike over and broke it. Any thoughts as to what species this is? My guess is this is a very spotted variety of macrocarpum, but I don't know this species very well.
There are two buds, so I cut one in half to look inside and put the stem with one remaining bud in some water with the hopes that it will open soon! I dunno though. Pretty frustrating!
unfortunatelly the flower is not fully open, and it is also not possible to see the whole labellum on those pics.. However, I would say either maculatum or intergerrimum....

Hmmm... intergerrimum. I have one of the flowers still growing in a glass of water. Hopefully it will open or at least develop some more so I can take a pic of the labellum for you.
Hi Steve, I have seen the new pics in Flickr... Catasetum maculatum... almsot 100% sure...
Well, I guess I'll post 'em here too. Thanks for help with this one!
This is the bloom that I put in a glass full of water. It barely 'bloomed' but it definitely gives a better idea of what species it is. I think Ramon is right on with maculatum, but I would love to hear all opinions!
