How long do you grow this plant for? May be she is an emigrant and she thinks that it is a spring now. By the way, some orchids continue to bloom at native blooming periods even if it doesn't correspond to the season at the place where they live.

Hi , I have a Gongora graveolens aka tricolor ? unless the name has changed :(
It is in spike now mine grows like my Coryanthes, spikes straight out from the base of the bulb along the mix .. It is in a slat basket , fine at first, then it settled . I took the basket apart it only has 3 slats now , the P bulbs are higher than the basket . It is spring here . Your plants looks great bet it will bloom in the spring or summer . :) Gin |
Hey Damian,
I am suspicious about your Gongora when you flower it don't be surprised if it turns out to some else. That said G.galeata(correct spelling this time:roll: ) is very variable in plant habit. The leaves on yours seem a bit broad and the bulbs a bit to elongated they should be more ovoid in shape. Non the less your plant is in magnificent health, put it in a place were it gets plenty of air movement and just be patient:biggrin: Cheers Craig |

If it does turn out to be something else I won't be too bummed, but happy for it to finally be flowering ;). It along with everything else is being moved to a temporary winter home where everything will have lots more room to spread their legs  and much more air movement . |

I have several plants of this species and for me they seem to skip a year between blooming. Don't know if this is the case here.

while I was waiting to move it and all my other orchids into their winter/early spring accomodation [a small lean-to/attached GH] I didn't water my orchids enough as I should have and the Gongora got a little bit of pleating on two leaves. Now it is in its new home, I'm trying to water it more frequently as there are many shoots that haven't reached full size yet. It still is in active growth despite it being almost winter here. |
No problem; my pleasure.
