I was so impressed, I ordered a Rebecca Northern cross this morning. It is from Sunset Valley Orchids. I hope it is half as good as yours when it matures. Betty

It does make me feel a bit better. I am just glad that it isn't looking worse...well worse than they already do with no leaves.

This article gives you a good overview of the culture. As with all orchids, you may need to adjust based on your general growing conditions.

For example I get little direct sunlight in for two months in winter and in summer my greenhouse tends to be quite humid. This means that I go for a substrate which is quite coarse and dries very quickly: the bottom half of the plant is in a mixture of styrofoam, coarse bark and coal. Then a sprinkling of CHC above which I have Epiweb. I found that this encourages great root development (see picture). It also means that if the pots get accidentally splashed with a bit of water in winter, it dries out quickly and the base of the plant stays dry and is less susceptible to rot. Incidentially slugs also don't like the epiweb

I don't start with a full watering regime until the new growth is quite big and the plant shows a good root system. Obviously this depends on the weather in spring, which can be quite erratic in the UK.

Psyched, I’m growing all my orchids indoors, on the south faced windowsills. As potting medium for Clowesia I’m using chopped NZ sphagnum and perlite (about 50:50 in proportion) in a plastic pot of suitable size. Warm range of temperatures. Humidity level is never below 50%, usually around 60%. Fans provide good air circulation. Heavy watering during active stage as well as regular fertilizer. In dormant period only slight occasional watering.
That’s about it.
