Default Clowesetum Wyche's Bumble Bee

Clowesetum Wyche's Bumble Bee is rather interesting complex hybrid between Clowesia warczewitzii and Catasetum Susan Fuchs in my opinion. It was registered in 1989 by L.Poole.
This particular hybrid is very variable and at the moment it flowers at my place like that

Fantastic Gena!
How big are the flowers? They look gigantic in the picture.

Very nice looking hybrid! The flowers almost look like they are Dendrobiums. Did the scent from the Clowesia parent come through?

I really like this hybrid.

I find it very interesting that the colors from the Catasetum parents are really weak on Clowesetums, especially compared to Mormodes x Clowesia. I saw the only blooming Ctsm John C Burchett x Clo Rebecca Northen, and it looked very similar to this, despite Ctsm John C Burchetts intense coloration.

Really? and I was expecting a very intense dark colored flower for that hybrid... however, let's see whatthe other plants look like... there are also dark colored Wyche's Bumble Bee (I always thought these light colored one were because of the use of light colored catasetums...)

Beautiful blooms, Gena. It's easy to see the influence of the clowesia parent, and hopefully it inherited the scent from the clowesia as well. Congratulations on your wonderful flowers.

I personally haven't seen any of the dark ones of these. Also, I would say that most of the Susan Fuchs that I have seen have been pretty red. I know there's some out there that are yellow/white/green, but I figured anybody making this cross would use something like 'Burgundy Chips', or the like.

well.. it depends where the cross is actually made... it seems that light colored Susan Fuchs are pretty popular in Asia (while darker forms seems to be more popular in the USA) and most of the Wyche's BBs I have seen are of asian origin. If I am not wrong, Gena's plant comes from the same nursery as my plant in France (gena, correct me if I am wrong) and this plant comes from Jumbo Orchids... I have also seen a dark colored (better said, a heavy burgundy spotted) Wyche's BB, and it was also coming from Jumbo.. I think it depends on the parents... but genetics is a "funny" thing too I must admit... The picture in Holst's book is also a heavy spotted plant (from JEM Orchids)

If you check Jumbo Orchids' Website and Holst's book, you will find other dark colored Clowesetums
