I´M NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT FORUM.... BUT THIS PLANT IS VERY SIMILLAR TO STANHOPEA AND GONGORA I THINK IS A RELATIVE... THIS PLANT I HAVE FOR TWO YEARS, BUT THIS YEAR IS THE FIRST TIME IT BLOOMS WITH 5 SPIKES... IS WONDERFULL ... THE FLOWER IS ABOUT 5 CM .... I LOVE THE TRANSPARENT ORANGE COLOR OF THE FLOWER.... NO SCENT...

Hi Steve
In the photo are tree buds ... one with tree flowers and two with many I think 5 (next to open... in two weeks I think)... in the other side are two more buds... Two or tree buds per pseudobulb... is good for any Stanhopea isn´t it ...
The flowers I think are long lasting ... they opened on friday.... let´s see...
The plant I think is small with short leaves 20-25 cm with small pseudobulbs 4-5 cm

Ola Beto
As a result of your post, I checked on-line sources for
information about the genus Sievekingia, which is part of the Stanhopeinae. In particular I went to Dr. Gunter Gerlach's Stanhopeinae Image Database. I do not think your plant is Sievekingia peruviana. From looking at the
pictures it might be either hirtzii or rhonhofiae - take a look at the attached pictures and see what you think.

Thank you so much, I´ve checked the whole genus in orchidspecies and I found a picture that match with my plant : S. PERUVIANA.... but i think this genus is very small and the pictures and description are very bad.... Also, this plant was found in my country: Ecuador, they said that this plant grows only in Peru...
I think the third picture that you found is my plant...

Beto - it is confusing because I have seen pictures of plants similar to yours which are called Sievekingia peruviana. In my post, photos 1 & 2 are peruviana which has white sepals and petals and a yellow lip; photos 3 & 4 are of hirtzii and 5 & 6 are rhonhofiae. All these photos came from the Stanhopiae Image Database. I'm including a link to Reproductive Biology of Orchids where you can access this image database. RBO - Reproductive Biology of Orchids

HI
yes is very confused... In the page you gave me is indiscutible the Sievekingia Hirtzii, but in the descripcion is something weird.... there is: BEFORE 1989..... After that year someone change the name????
There´s something wrong....
I think is Hirtziii because that german ingeneer discover a lot of species and he´s still leaving here in Ecuador....
Thanks for your interest in the misterious name of my plant...

First thing's first. You're right and as was stated by golforchid, Sievekingia is a Stanhopea relative.
I think the confusion is from looking at pictures from Jay's Internet Orchid Encyclopedia.
He's not always 100% right. Sometimes the information on the site is pretty off. I'm not saying Jay's site is totally unreliable, but you gotta look and see, you know, cross referencing.
I'd trust the Stanhopeinae Image Database site more.
In my opinion I think you've got Sievekingia hirtzii.
I had a Siev. rhonhofiae before, the flowers don't look like the ones on your plant. The lip is the give away. Pay attention to the details of the lip, Sievekingia hirtzii is the closest match to yours.

Beto - I believe the dates under the images refer to the date the photo was taken, not when it was named.
(yo pienso la fecha es la fecha cuando se toma la foto)
