Default Mormodes punctata

This was sold as Mormodes flactifoxaigneo, which actually is not a valid species at all. Probably the vendor (Jumbo Orchids) was not sure whether Mormodes fractiflexum or Mormodes igneum (both species very similar and often considered the same).

I have contacted the specialist in Mormodes and he identified it as Mormodes punctata...

quite interesting plant, with a not very strong fragrance (I was specting something stronger)

Nice. My punctata will open in a couple days, interesting to compare the two. I also have Mormodes flactifoxaigneo, which is spiking. Vegetatively the two I have are completely different.

I wish this genus wasn't such a mess.

Yes, Bruno. I was also very surprised. At the beginning I thought it was me, because I have a cold now. But I asked two other people to try to smell it and the yall confirmed what I knew: a very soft fragrance... not a very nice one, but also not disgusting...t also not

Cool, Looking forward to see the pictures

Where did you get your "flactifoxaigneo" from? Jumbo Orchids or Pine Ridge Orchids (which at ethe end is again Jumbo Orchids) This species does not exist at all. As I mention before, you have igneum and fractiflexum, but according to Gostavo Salazar (Mormodes specialist at the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico) both are synonyms. He is the one who identified this plant as M. punctata.

Both came from Pine Ridge. Vegetatively the plants are very different from each other, and from another punctata that I have.

Its too bad about the weak scent. The plant looks young though, maybe this is the problem? My first bloom Stans will often only have a strong fragrance for the first couple of hours and then it goes away.
