Default Stanhopea jenischiana

Stan jenischiana was one of the first Stanhopeas to reach Europe, named as Epidendrum grandiflorum (and later Anguloa grandiflora) by Humboldt and Bonpland. As it is not a Epidendrum nor an Anguloa, it was later transferred to the genus Stanhopea. Stan jenischiana has an intense color and a delicious vanilla scent!

Your looks great Fred! How harsh of a winter rest do you give this one? I just pulled mine out of the rain so that it could dry out and I always like to hear techniques from other growers. I usually give mine a pretty harsh, dry rest and it seems to work.

Hi!

Not so harsh, Steve! I usually use the same procedure with the Stan lietzei, ie only a relatively dry period, reducing (but not cutting off) the watering (the winter here is the dry season, so I can leave it outside)

Got one on order for our orchid show in March, can hardly wait. Fell in love with one at the last show I was at, vendor was not willing to sell his display one which had about 8 - 10 flowers...amazing in real life!! Well grown.
