Cycnodes... I am in love

I have seen this beauty and I can't get it out of my mind:


The name that I found for this beauty is:
Cycnodes Jumbo Puff 'Jumbo Emperor' though I don't know if this name is correct.

I also searched with the word "Cycnodes" here at the boards but I couldn't find anything

Any info would be much appreciated!

nice one... and cool it is blooming from such a small pseudobulb! Normally Cycnodes will bloom from larger PBs and will produce more flowers per spike... which only means you have a good plant


in this thread you will find some links with very good info on how to grow Catasetinae: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ff-hc-sky.html (Note: the plant in the thread is the same cross as yours, but the genus is wrong... Cycnodes is correct, as it is the hybrid of Cycnoches and Mormodes!) - FYI all Catasetum, Cycnoches, Clowesias and (in some extent) Mormodes, and all their hybrids (Clowesetum, Cycnodes, Mormodia, Fredclarkeara, Catanoches, Clowenoches, Monnierara) are cultivated the same way and are very easy plants if you understand and "respect" their needs... check the links and you will have great info ther!

as for your plant, I had never heard from the clon 'Jumbo Emperor' where did you get it from?

do not be irritated when surfing the web and you find several Cycnodes with different names which look exactly like yours many of the yellow Cycnodes are very VERY similar and often difficult to separate from each other...

What a coincidence, I was thinking to contact you about your mini paph and now you replied here.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, as I write at the top "I have seen this beauty..." (above the photo) therefore it is not mine (I wish it was).
I found this photo on the internet, it's not mine.

I don't know much about other orchids yet (except phals) and from what I do know it was also strange to me to see so short plant in bloom and with so many and big flowers.

I live in Netherlands, I wish I can find something here or at a nearby country.

well you are lucky then... Cycnodes Jumbo Puff, as well as Cycnodes Taiwan Gold (very similar to Jumbo Puff) and Cycnodes Wine Delight (a red one) are easily available in Europe...

I think Schwerter Orchideen in Germany has Jumbo Puff and Taiwan Gold now...

well.. I see you are getting hooked to teh catasetinae... Cyc. barthiorum is a great species...

now, some facts about Catasetinae... which you should know... Catasetum and cycnoches have great and impresive flowers.. with (most of the time) very nice fragrances... the bad side of them is that teh flowers do not last longer than two weeks, in many cases right longer than one week... however, these two weeks are worth!

Cycnodes has improved longevity of teh flowers... Clowesia too... Fredclarkeara and Mormodia (Clowesia x Mormodes) have flowers lasting over 3 weeks (over 6 weeks reported for Fredclarkeara, but I still need to see it first hand - my two Fredclarkearas has not bloomed yet!)

I am not just hooked, I am lost! I have side by side the German shop that you suggested, another one that I knew from elsewhere (orchideen.com) and my Dutch one (botorch.com)
And I try to compare which one has what. And all those to prepare my next order.
My previous order was about a week ago and I said to my self "ok, stop for a while now it's cold"

Edit: Btw, do you mean the whole period of blooming lasts 1-2 weeks or each flower of them?

OMG! Catasetum schimidtianum !!!

I am observing that the genus Catasetum has some astonishing flowers but none of three that I mentioned have them at their lists.
