Mormodes variabilis Male
Default Mormodes variabilis

Mormodes variabilis starts open its flowers today. As you can see the flowers are not fully open yet but I thought that it can be rather interesting to see different stages in folding process, especially folding of labellum.
Species is originated from Ecuador.

Congratulations Gena those flowers are very nice, I like very much mormodes and this ecuadorian specie is breathless. It would be a good choice for crossing, but so far no female flowers showed up. I have several plants now in bloom (starting to open), hope to post them next week end. For mormodes fans this time of the year is special.

Indeed, I was surprised this morning when I checked my recently received "bare-root" Mormodes punctata, starting two spikes
