Bruno....I've clearly seen the female Cycnoches and Catasetums, but how do you tell the Female mormodes?

The story i was always told was that upon removal of the pollinia, the column rotates and the stigma becomes receptive.

Aceetobe, mormodes female flowers are also very clear to distinguish. As you pointed out, in female flowers the column twisted upwards to one side of the flower allowing an easy polinization by the euglosae bees. The male flowers do not show rotated columns and they cannot become female just when is removed the pollinia, that is a false story. Look at the picture that I enclosed with this note where it is highlited both male and female flowers in one blooming spike. By the way, to have female flowers in mormodes the plant must be very strong and healthy, here it doesn´t work the light factor. Hope the question is clarified now.

This mormodes was so spectacular a few years ago that I was getting crazy when I saw the plant dying by a fungal desease, I almost loose this plant, now it is totally recovered thanks to a keiky which grew on the psbulb. At this moment is still small but strong enough to carry out a flower spike and I hope to see the flowers again and share it here in a few weeks. Is one of the best mormodes I have, no doubt about it.
