Default Stanhopea embreei

Stan embreii is native to Ecuator, and grows in medium/high altitudes (600-1000m above sea level); the spike is huge, with more than 30cm in lenght, and the flowers are very apart one from another, in a beautiful display

Fred,
That is one heck of a nice show! I've never seen this species in real life, so I have to ask: How does this one smell?

Very nice. I've always liked these orchids. I may add one or two to my collection someday.

Thank you friends!
Steve, I actually took the pics under the rain, and I need to smell the flowers with more attention! But I guess it does't have a strong scent.

Default Stan embreei 2nd spike

A new spike of this beauty; (specialy for Steve/Isurus) this time I paid close attention to its scent: very strange, remember something like an insecticide (the former BHC); weird!
Despite its smell, I love yhe embreei's 'eyes'!

Insecticide! lol At least it looks great! I didn't notice those red spots on the first round of pics either. They really add a splash of color.

The blooms are quite pretty, Frederico--in spite of the fact that your description of the scent detracts just a little from the appeal of the flowers. It's very interesting that all of the flowers are so far apart on the spike. I don't think that I've ever seen any other stanhopea species exhibit that same kind of trait.
