Wild Orchid...Catasetinae?? Male
Question Wild Orchid...Catasetinae??
This orchid presently in bloom (Monsoon-rainy season) grows wild in jungle areas of Southern Thailand. As the season changes and the weather gets drier/cooler, it loses it's foliage and goes into a prolonged rest season, just like the Catasetinae do. Does it belong to the Catasetum family and does anyone know it's exact name? Thank you. The photos show quite beautiful blooms indeed and the shape is unique. Enjoy.

Hi Michael,

your plant in question is Calanthe sp. Not a Catasetinae!

Catasetinae is a tribe from the new world, being wild only in middle and south america.
