Default Stanhopea Spikes (outside medium)

Hi

I've noticed one of my stanhopea's has some spikes but they are not really growing through any media.

Do these have any chance to flower or will they abort because of this?

Cheers John

They should be fine as Stanhopea spikes emerge from sides and bottom of wire or wooden basket in which the plant is growing otherwise they wouldn't bloom

Just like golforchid said. The spikes will emerge from out of the medium and then bloom. Same thing with the coryanthes.

Default Stanhopea nigroviolacea spikes - now ready to burst!

Hi

Those small little spikes have quickly grown to these huge buds. Probably open next few days...I'll try not to miss it. Usually last only 3 days. Buds are around 3" wide (8cm) x 6" long (150mm).

Will post flowers once open...

Cheers

John
