Mormodes buccinator var. aureum

I already posted this plant last year and I want to shear again its beauty. Even though the plant is not very strong, in this opportunity it gave me two spikes with golden yellow flowers with a very strong menthol fragance. Is one of my favorites.

Another great one! I wonder how the offspring of this plant would look if crossed with that red Mormodes with the hairy lip you recently posted?

Thanks a lot Gena, yes it is really beautiful, but I have another one which is darker, close to orange that one is much more spectacular (Is the one of my avatar). I almost lost it but now is fully recovered (still have a small bulb) and it is next to send out a spike, hopfully with a few buds. Let´s wait to see it again. By the way be patient .

EDIT. By the way, USINA (in spanish "ingenio","fábrica", "complejo industrial" or "factoría") is not a place in brazil, but the word for factory, specialy the big ones. ThemI don't have even a clue from which part of Brazil they came from... It looks like buccinator to me, but the colors aren't "right" I think.

Nix, Jan …. unfortunately. I saw couple of pictures posted at Mombu the Orquideas Forum Mormodes da usina - Mombu the Orquideas Forum but I could not identify it. I agree with you about buccinator – it just doesn’t feel right to me. And it’s a pity that there is no picture of the whole plant, than, at least, it could be possible to understand to which section this plant belongs.
About coloration – it is very peculiar indeed! It is not so seldom a contrasting coloration is presented in the genus but shown one is quite odd.

Good question Steve, but as Jan said I have to cross my fingers and wait a female flower , I am sure that the result would be superb .

Actually Jan, this new systematic was proposed by Dr. Gerardo A. Salazar Chávez at 15th WOC in Brazil in 1996

As a matter of fact this guy is known as the GURU in mormodes. I have different mormodes plants and I can tell you that there are big differences in some of them just in the way of the ammount and arragement of the flowers on the spike, the flower display and fragance as well. All of them are known as buccinator but I am sure they cannot be. I guess that there is a lot to go through to this genera and is a pitty that only a few people did some work on this plants.

Jan and Gena, the problem is that you have to be registered in this forum to be able to open and its content. You need to apply for membership, and the moderator decides whether you are should accepted or not. On my side, I can say that I have applied 3 times (several months apart) and have always being rejected.... so... I gave up...

Yeh, I saw that registration is necessary there. I’ll try to do it later, we’ll see. But it sounds so strange for me that they didn’t accept your application, Ramón. Did they explain why?
