Stanhopea florida
This is a "non eye-spot" clone of Stan florida. Eye-spotting is much variable in Stan florida and in its "sister"-species, Stan nigripes, but both have the same basic morphology; they share the same habitat, only the smell and the different pollinators separate them into two distinct species

Fred,
That looks really nice! How big is your plant? I have one that I am waiting for blooms from and I am wondering if I will get any flowers soon.

Hi friends! Thanks for looking!
Steve,
It is not a large plant, but it is well established (about ten foliated pbulbs). I noticed that florida needs a little less light, otherwise the leaves might get "yellowish". After I hung it in a lower position, it bloomed!

Hate to ask a newbie question, but please pass along tips for coaxing a bloom from Stanhopea florida. My three-year old plant has yet to bloom. I have luck with Catts, Cycnoches and other beauties, but am coming up short on the Stan. Any suggestions?

Hi KC
The stan florida is not demanding in terms of the dry season in winter, but you can try to induce it to bloom. But it may be simply the fact that it is still new, or perhaps originated from seed (seedlings may take a long time to bloom!)
If you try the dry season in winter, do not let the plant completely dry, just reduce the irrigation

Just beautiful. I'm thinking about picking one of these up for myself.
