Default Stanhopea unknown species

I'm not sure which species this is, but it does smell like cinnamon! Once I noticed the inodora in bloom, all I had to do was look overhead and see the mass that was hanging from this one!
Great looking flowers and I love the spots and the scent!

Beautiful blooms. What type of cultivation do these guys require? Do they get large? I live in zone 9b and these look tempting.

Laura, those look beautiful. And I've never smelled (or heard of) a stanhopea that has cinnamon-scented blooms. So I'll be interested to see if you get any responses from some knowledgeable stanhopea person on this site who can identify this one for you. Congratulations.

Steve

Laura,

Its probably not a "species", but a hybrid (Stan Assidensis; look at assendis1 ). Anyway its beautiful, as as any Stan!

Looks amazing. I'm wondering Fred, why do you say this is Assidensis and not say, oculata? Just curious!

The only reason that I would think it might be a species is that they came in with the inodora and the tags were all loose, so Louis couldn't be sure. I'll have to check with Louis and see if he has an idea.

Hi Steve!

Why not oculata.....
Well, its only a guess, I'm not sure....it looks like a hybrid for me, and I never heard about a oculata with cinnamon scent! Mentol scented oculatas, OK; Vanilla scented oculatas, OK. But a cinnamon scented oculata? I think it doesn't exist.

My guess would be a hybrid of inodora ( or what ever you want to call that species ). The hypochile looks very simular to that species and becase in was mixted in with it.
The only stanhopea species that I am aware of with a strong cinnamon fragrance is Stan. saccata.
