what did with mine is put some spagnum moss in the bottom of the pot then i pot a glass bottel in the midle of the pot then i packed spagnum moss around the sides nice and tightly and cairfully removed the bottel, then i put some orchid compost in the bottom of the pot (a modified lilly basket) then put the plant in and then put spagnum moss around the top of the pot and it keeps the moisture in, lets the flower spikes out and it look realy good in no time!! good luck and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm. I got one around a month ago but i got it in a basket with tiny little slits. Nowhere near anough for the inflorescense to go through. I have to repott it anyways because the last bulb has touched the end of the pot.

I should expect it to flower. It has 8 bulbs from the tiniest ive ever seen to well sized plump ones.

I just started collecting orchids. I impulse bought a phal, and of course now I have 4 more, but I bough all of them before I discovered Stanhopeas. The more I look at Stanhopeas, the more I fall in love with this species. I want 10 billion of them all hanging from my ceiling, but I don't even have one.

I'm worried about trying to water it because I live in a small apartment. How would I go about watering it without making a mess of my carpet? Does anyone grow these indoors? If I can figure out a way, I want one hanging in front of each of my windows. They're sooo cool.

Well i have two now
and they are hanging outside for the summer but when i have them inside i water them in the sink and let them drain out. Then o carry them over to where they hang. My other orchids are bellow that so any other watr that falls from it goes into them. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion. I also came up with another plan which I have yet to execute, but it's in the works.

I think I'm going to try and buy those three tiered hanging baskets for vegetables and remove the middle basket. I'll plant the top basket with a Stanhopea and something a little more solid beneath that could grow with a newspaper liner and soil that could absorb any excess water in the bottom basket. Then any extra drips will only help the plant below and stay off my carpet. I'll post pictures if I ever get around to building it this summer.
