Ctsm. splendens (aka xtapiriceps) - could these be hermaphrodite?
More giant female flowers - though I wonder if these could possibly be bisexual? Okay, a very uncomfortable subject!
I've done some googling for images, and it is very hard to tell!
Showing the typical male flowers, and a few shots of the other suspects!
It is okay to talk dirty about these; I will try to get a better close-up photo later today. I would like to know, though I don't plan to do anything perverse with these in any case.
Cheers - Nancy

They definitely look like they are right in between the male and female form and I can't see any triggers (except for the 1st pic) so I think you got some hermaphrodite flowers! Thought I think if they have pollen then they would be 'perfect.' Do they have pollinia? Good growing, but again, aren't you getting blooms kinda early this year? The first 'official' day of summer was like a week ago!

Hermaphrodite Flowers?
Bisexual flowers? Sounds kinky to me, but then isn't that all the rage these days? lol And the first day of summer, officially, isurus, was just this past Sunday, less than a week ago. Which was also my birthday and Fathers' Day this year.
Anyway, neat pix. Thanks for posting them.

There is nothing strange about hermaphrodite flowers in catasetums, they are not common but they sometimes occur. You are still keeping the name of splendens instead of xtapiriceps ???, well to tell you the truth I agree, splendens is an apropiate name for such a nice plant, congratulations.

Hello Bruno -
Since I received the plant as 'splendens' that is what the tag still says. Though I have a notation of the 'official' name. It is, I think, a naturally occurring primary hybrid, but I don't recall the parents (that is probably in my notes, but not in my head!).
Like many people, I am weary of name changes, so stick to the one that corresponds to the plant in my mind. Or, the one I can spell and pronounce!
And yes, I think it is very beautiful!
