Default More Pileatums

While I am still out of home my pileatums bloomed and I have got these pictures yesterday. Both are first time and they promise me a very nice flower display in the next comming years. Both plants are from Venezuela.

Amazing looking flowers!! I am astounded by how different the shapes are for each plant. Very cool! What media do you grow your pileatums in?

Yes indeed, they have different shapes and colors, but the clear one is bigger in size (10 cm wide). What media do I use, well it is called PET method by the brazilians. I used the bottom side of the softdrink plastic bottles, I make some holes at the bottom and to the sides to drain water and allow air to get in and I use palm fiber mixed with wood chunks and charcoal. Also you can use coconut fiber but you have to washer first for several days to remove salts. It is very simple, but you must change the media every two to three years.

Very nice variations in this (variable) species. Both have a great deal of charm!
