Stanhopea insignis - Orchid Board

An amazing surprise! This Stan is a small division (only 3 pbulbs, 2 with leaves), and it was basketed only six months ago. Moreover, we are no longer in the Stan season in Brazil. The background color is lightly yellow, different from the usual straw color.

Awesome!! You plant is sooo small though. Im surprised it bloomed. Shucks, mine has a good 10-15 bulbs and still wont bloom!! I was thinking maybe it was too small/young....? I guess not!!! Frederico, you certainly have the Stanhopea touch!

I guess its a problem of "plant maturation" (?). My division is a piece of a fully matured, adult (and blooming) Stan. May be you plant is from seed, and demands more maturation (?)

How long does it usually takes for seedlings to bloom? Is it as long as catts?

Hi Zozzl,

I think the time (from seed till blooming) is more or less the same for the Stans and the big, unifoliate, natural species of Catts (hybrids will take less time), something between five and seven years. The small, natural, bifoliate Catts (as C. intermedia, C. forbesi) are much faster!
