I had a feeling you'd say this, Steve. I'm probably going to do equal parts of sponge rock, tree fern, moss, charcoal.

I'll post updates on this 2nd one when it's dead...only kidding but I think is probably it's fate.

kavanaru, veekay, Steve...thank you soooooo much for your help.

Sandy, let me tell you that catasetums when they develop new growth likes warm and dry conditions. No water at all since the new shot has a relatively big size, does not matter if old p. bulbs shrivell they will get healthy when you can water again the plant. First picture looks ok and you should hurry up a little bit to transplate the plant to another medium to avoid root damage. Damaging the new roots makes a very slow growth. Do not water at this moment. Also use a proper medium (a mix of dry semi decompose wood, charcoal and coconout fiber. The fiber must be washed several times to get rid of salts. Use plastic pots and put at the bottom pieces of red brick for drainage. Second picture the plant is almost dead, you may recovery it with some lock.

Sandy,

Don't know exactly where in South Florida you are, but you might visit a local orchid club/society for some hands on help, too.

Hi Laura, S/H is used here in OB referring to Semi-Hydro. There is a whole Forum for S/H culture here in OB Semi-Hydroponic Culture - Orchid Board - Most Complete Orchid Forum on the web ! where you can find a lot of good information.

you can also visit Ray's website Welcome to First Rays Orchids
