I guess it doesnt really matter but if you get them now they should either be just starting to grow or still dormant. That way you can see a full season of growth, then the bloom and then dormancy.

Bought two more at the local orchid show just yesterday. They both have spikes and leaves but I expect the leaves to drop anytime. A perk to living in Florida.

It's either early or late in the year to be buying one of these depending on how you look at it as the plants will most likely be dormant. You can check around with a local orchid grower or go to a nearby show so that you can ask questions, see and examine the plants. This gives immediate control over the care of the plant if it's cold outside.

However, since you seem to know what you want, you could order directly from a vendor online. Any reputable one will be happy to correspond with you to answer any questions and I would request a picture of the actual plant they will be sending before actually ordering. Ask about how they ship due as freezing temperatures could damage the plant in transit even if dormant.

Wow That was really Helpful!!!!! i will totally do that! in NYC about 1 hour from my house the New York botanical Gardens is having its annual Orchid show so maybe i could see one there!
