Probably not, but Ive never used that stuff so I have no idea!! Before you do anything rash, wait for someone to chime in who knows mpre about coco husk than I do.

I have used coco fiber the, kind that comes as a mat to line wire baskes. I pulled it apart and used it to line my stanhopea baskets, wooden as well as plastic ones. My potting medium is a mix of bark, pearlite and what ever else I have on hand. I found
the fiber dried out to fast for my conditions. Also the birds kept taking it when the plants were outside during the summer. I now line both types of baskets with sphagnum moss, just enough to block the openings in the baskets. Then I fill the rest with my bark mixture.

Thanks for your response, Gwallogwyn. I have a lot of sphag. and CHC mixed in with the rest so I think I'm safe in keeping the plant from drying too fast...I hope! I was thinking of doing just a sphag. lining but thought the holes were too big and needed a lining...I think I may have packed it too dense, now.
Hope Frdemetr and Bruno see the latest, here!

Hi Sandy,
There is a pic of my newspaper lining method; double sheet of newspaper, and small holes in the paper (in the bottom). The newspaper lasts time enough to the roots 'consolidate' the medium

S. wardii flower life span?
Hi,
I have really enjoyed this thread. My S. wardii bloomed!! The buds opened on Tuesday morning (I witnessed it happening, which was overwhelming and really cool). This morning, the flowers look rather filmy, almost spent. How long do they typically last? I kept water off of them (well, as little as possible ). For as long as they lasted, they were stunning. This plant is my first Stanhopea, so I am in the learning mode! Thanks for any input.

Alright Vanessa! Those flowers are something else, aren't they? They are very short-lived though. If you get more than a few days you're lucky. Congrats on the blooms!

Thanks, Royal. The Coryanthes I got from you is growing well. This S. wardii was such a surprise. The buds seemed to last as long as the flowers!! It smelled of sweet, dusty plastic. It wasn't an overwhelming smell (thank goodness), but it was interesting and those flowers are so intricate. I will have to post my pics.
