Cyc. chlorochilon x Cycd. Jumbo Micky
This Cycnodes is currently in bloom in my collection. It is an eye catcher with its clean golden yellow flowers. The plant has two pendant inflorescences with a total of 23 flowers and buds. The natural spread of the flowers measures 2-1/4 inches horizontally. The plant is grown in a 4-inch plastic pot with New Zealand sphagnum as its media. The flowering bulb is 9-inches tall. The flowers have a very firm substance and a waxy texture. The flowers do not have a scent.

Beautiful flowers. How long have they been opened? I have several similar crosses to this one, and I've noticed that the fragrance (which eventually becomes quite strong) doesn't typically develop for a few days until after they've all been completely open. So it might be that they're simply too young to have developed their scent yet. Still, even if no fragrance is ever produced, they're stunningly beautiful. Congratulations.

Hi Steve. The buds started opening a week ago. I hope you are right about the scent. They look like flowers that will give off a sweet fragrance. Thanks for the comments.

Very nice blooms! How many times a week are you watering during the summer? Im curious because of the fact that you use spag for media. Also, do you have holes or slits in the pots? Thanks!!

Hi Steve. I grow all of my adult Catasetums and Cygnoches in New Zealand sphagnum in plastic pots. They like sphagnum based on the healthy root system that I get. I grow the small seedlings in 2-inch clay pots and then use 3 or 4 plastic pots for the adult plants. I pack my sphagnum tight and keep them moist. I water every 2 to 3 days and fertilize with a foliar fertilizer weekly. The only holes in the pots are those that come with the pot at the bottom.
