Actually, many from Gene Monnier's fleeing-FL sale; others by stalking, begging, etc. Same way everybody gets them.

I know exactly why, though I don't remember their names...3 hurricanes in a row, in the same year. It just wears you down, I think. We get pretty tired of putting the fence back up, and the roof back on - losing one or more greenhouses must be pretty discouraging. I think he just didn't have the heart to start over again, again, again.
Very nice guy; I told him if he lived in south Louisiana, everyone would pronounce his name correctly (and his wife's as well, if it is in the french way, Jean Zhohn.

Beautiful... thanks for sharing... every little bit of info on these intriguing flowers is helpful.
I have attached 2 pics of what I have labelled as Catasetum appendiculatum... and 1 pic of Ctsm barbatum. If anyone can tell me the "similarities" of these two... and why they should be considered as the same..ie. barbatum... please let me know. Also... if any of you have a pic of Ctsm appendiculatum... please let me know.
Regards... Scotty.

Hi Scotty, I know nothing...however, the description in the IOSPE IOSPE PHOTOS for Ctsm barbatum says appendiculatum is a synonym...yours certainly look nothing alike! The one you say is appendiculatum is a real beauty (and an excellent photo, too). So, I'm stumped. I leave things labeled as I receive them, hope for the best, and deny, deny, deny when challenged.

Steve, is Gene Monnier the vendor who goes by JEM Orchids? That's where my 3 Catasetum are from. He sold off his collection to a local vendor, here before leaving for Hawaii and it was this other vendor who told me that he wanted to move on to the real paradise, is why he left.

Its funny that you mention this right after orchideric mentions Pine Ridge Orchids. Pine Ridge must be the guy that JEM sold their plants to because Pine Ridge is posted on JEMs website ( http://jemorchids.com/). I think it was Nancy who said that JEM moved to HI because they got hit rapid fire by a bunch of hurricanes and Gene Monnier had had enough. Since he moved to the Big Island, Mr. Monnier will never have to worry about a hurricane again!
