Well, whatever it is, it's funny you guys bring this thread up right now.....cuz' it just shot out it's first spike of the year. So, in a couple more weeks, we can take another look. I've had it in pretty bright light, so maybe we'll get a little female identification this time. Thanks for the info, though, Ramon.....and everyone else.

Jasen, I was wondering about the final look of the flowers...in the photos that you posted it looked like they'd just opened up, and I know that some of mine change from a rounded look to more pointed as they continue to unfold. Did you find this to me true of this plant ?

I wasn't really looking for it, so I didn't notice. I'll be sure to watch for it this time.

Laura, do you have pictures of your plant? I would be interested to see what you mean with "unfolded". Normally, Ctsm. macrocarpum and Ctsm xtapiriceps (those close to macrocarpum) do not open more than the flowers shown by Jasen...

P.S.- I will post pictures of my Ctsm. macrocarpum in bloom tonight...

Hi Ramon, I wasn't speaking of this plant specifically since mine has never bloomed, but I've noticed with some of my other ctsm's that they seem to open up a bit more with age.
I do look forward to seeing your photos this evening!

The obvious differences that I can tell are that the middle point (of the trident) on my 'chid's hood is a little more squared off than yours, and mine has a very defined column base....whereas your column kind of quietly fades into the background of the flower. Mine also smells very strong like black licorice. Beautiful display.....bravo, Ramon.
