Hello everyone!!!

I am just bidding on my gongora (I Hope I win) and I would like some information on growing it. Does it require full sun/shade?

As far as potting, can it be in a wooden vanda basket with moss around it or does it have to be plastic one?

Where is a good place to buy these online? I am planning a scented garden for the front of the house and these seem to be perfect. Thanks in advance for the information.

I grow mine in bright light with some direct sun, but not midday sun. Basically "Cattleya type conditions," but the mellow kind (I grow my Catts harder than most). I would use the plastic net pots rather than the wooden basket types because these plants like to have lots of root growth into the media. The deeper net pots allow this. Water them A LOT! I water mine every day and they are growing and spiking like mad for me!

Thanks!! What type of growing medium do you use? Moss degrades pretty quickly here in Miami. Thanks for all the information. I can't wait!!!

I grow mine in spag here in Hawaii, but I know that some members grow theirs in coconut shells, coconut fiber, tree fern fiber, etc. Basically, anything that retains moisture fairly well, but still allows for plenty of air movement around the roots.

I have several and have had luck with plastic net-pots. The roots don't stick to them like wood which makes them easier when they need to be re-potted. I line it with a little coconut fiber and then use a mixture of coconut husk and sphagnum moss for the medium.

I find the Florida Sun a bit much for them, so they need shade.

Right now I have a Tri-Color that rotted before I knew it. Might be able to save a bulb or two, but I'm not hopeful.

Hello there peewee !!! I've got 3 Stanhopeas and 1 Gongora and they seem to be doing very good for me. I have them on wire baskets lined with spaghnum moss and they get about the same Phalaenopsis light and I water them daily in the morning. The baskets you can find at Home Depot and since they have very wide openings between the wires I use newspaper to prevent the moss from falling down. Another thing is if you get any Stanhopeas not to pack the moss down because if it gets too compact the spike won't be able to emerge. Good luck with the bidding and hopefully you'll win. Can anyone tell me how much and when to fertilize Gongora armeniaca?
