New Hybrids ---3xBlacks---
Just got some 3 new crosses from Sunset Valley Orchids, all with Fdk. After Dark parentage. I'm not sure if they are going to spike/bloom this year, but the potential flowers next year...I just can't wait.....
1. Fdk. After Dark 'SVO Amazing' x Ctsm. Donna Wise 'Long Last': This is the first hybrid with the world famous Fdk. After Dark bred with ‘Long Last’ a sibling of its parent ‘Kathleen’ which has solid dark flowers that last and last. Possibly 3” black flowers
2. Fdk. After Dark 'SVO Amazing' x Ctsm. Mark Dimmitt 'Ed Wise':Once again a hybrid with the famous Fdk. After Dark. The very dark burgundy colored Ctsm. Mark Dimmitt has the potential to significantly improve the shape and size of the After Dark while adding its dark color genes. Expecting bigger and better flowers than After Dark.
3. Fdk. After Dark 'SVO Amazing' x Ctsm. Donna Wise 'Kathleen' AM/AOS: Fdk. After Dark crossed back with its parent ‘Kathleen’. Once again the potential for larger black flowers may be unlocked here.

A mature After Dark is SO expensive; I'd much rather have small new crosses and see what happens! The breeder isn't even sure how they're going to come out. In my opinion it doesn't get better than that.

Fdk. After Dark 'SVO Amazing' x Ctsm. Donna Wise 'Kathleen' AM/AOS
I'm getting this one myself. I just got the tracking info so it should be here on Wed. Bad news with that though is that I'm going to be in court all day Wed because of a jury summons. I hope the little guy will be okay on my doorstep. Luckily the weather is supposed to be partly cloudy with a high of 69.
I can't wait to get my hands on him.

Kim, Did you get it yet? I received my plants the day before I departed for a two week trip to Thailand (for work not for orchids). They were in great shape after spending a day in a box on my doorstep at ~90 degrees. They're tough plants even when they're small. I hope they are still doing when I return.

I did get it. I wasn't seated on the jury so I got home at 11:30 and it didn't arrive until 4:15. It's such a cute little thing.
Are you planning on leaving them in the moss they came in or are you going to repot them into something else?
I've never had an orchid that was so little and young.

I'm not sure if I am going to replant or not as I haven't given them a full look-over. Note that those small pots you have are all moss on the top and then styrofoam from about the halfway point to the bottom.
When I replanted my other young svo cycnoches I did not disturb the surface level moss, just removed the plant from the pot, removed the Styrofoam that is under the moss and replaced it with a sphag/fine bark mix.

I got a division of Catasetum Crown Fox Voodoo from Fred Clarke, but have only obtained one Fdk hybrid from him so far. They are pricey! Also, I am getting 5 other Catasetum and Catamodes hybrid seedlings from him on June 10th when he comes here to Jacksonville, FL and speaks to the JOS. I have spoken with him on the phone and emailed him several times. He is probably the best grower and byridizer in the business currently. ( I used to work briefly for Gene Monnier in Del Rey Beach, FL, now in Hawaii.) I look forward to getting more hybrids from Fred in the near future. Will post pictures when I get blooms.
