Questions about new Mormodia/Catasetums
Default Questions about new Mormodia/Catasetums

For better or for worse, I took advantage of SVO’s holiday sale and upon unpacking, I made a couple of discoveries—unsurprisingly, the media(sphagnum) of every plant is crispy dry, a Mormodia I had been coveting came with what seems to be the beginnings of a spike, and one of the hybrid Catasetums doesn’t seem to be as plump as it should be.

Could a light watering be in order for the whole lot or should I just focus on the Catasetum with the wrinkles?

Thanks in advance!

Mo. Barnabas Collins—I hope this is a spike!

Ctsm. Sylvia Soloff Beightol ‘Dina Soloff’ x Lata Laxman—note the ribbed appearance I’m pointing at

Another catasetum from the same order for reference

The Catasetum looks normal. I would not water it.

Many of these flower during the dry season. I would not water that one.

Thanks for weighing in, ES! I definitely feel more comfortable not watering this group of plants I just got—these newest plants’ bulbs have quite a bit more substance(because Fred grew them out ) to them compared to the seedlings I got earlier in the year.

I suspect the faucet was turned off for the Ctsm. Sylvia Soloff Beightol ‘Dina Soloff’ x Lata Laxman a bit early, so you can either give it some water now or in a few weeks or so. Either way would work.

Thanks for your input, Stephen—it’s currently 90F in the shade, so I’ll give it some sips while the temperatures stay unseasonably warm!
