It has only 5 pseudobulbs and yet it developed 6 keikis over the growing season. It's only now growing a new regular pseudobulb. Not sure what to do about this. I'm afraid it'll suck too much energy from the mother plant. Although the keikis appear to have stopped growing any larger, as the growing season nears its end.

I didn't give this plant a rest period over the last winter. I wonder if thats what caused it? I've heard of Dendrobium kingianum doing this if grown without rest periods.

It looks a bit ugly I realize. I was moving, and the plant got pretty sunburned; it was difficult to find a suitable outdoor spot for it to grow while my indoor lighting system was down. A lot of my plants suffered during the moving process unfortunately.

I would remove the ones growing in weird places up the bulb and toss them. Unfortunately, not giving it a rest last year might have contributed to this one being out of sync. You could either treat this plant as you would a plant coming out of dormancy in spring, or cut it's water waaay back in mid December to help trigger dormancy which will result in stunted bulbs but hopefully plant that is back on schedule.

Update: So it turns out the reason the keikis were doing so awfully was because this plant has a horrible infestation of spider mites that I somehow didn't notice. I noticed when a few of the keikis died on their own since I last posted. I don't have any pesticides that work on them right now, so I threw the plant in the sink just now to try and drown the mites. Anyone know if this might work? I'm really bummed out, this is one of my favourite plants.

I'd add a little dish soap to that water - it will then do a better job of drowning the beasties.
