Pollen in the mail!?
Default Pollen in the mail!?

So my Catasetum journey may be taking unexpected but interesting twist…I got a letter from the excellent grower and breeder that I got the ‘Doris’ Choice’ from and within a smaller envelope there was some flaky yellow stuff! I haven’t confirmed yet whether the flakes are pollen masses or seed, but I imagine they’re pollen masses because they’re yellow. I’m excited!

Nice! I throw mine in some paper, put them in a prescription medicine container, and then in the fridge.

Hopefully a little of this goes a long way…If nothing gets in my way, I might use some in the morning and stash it in the mini fridge everybody forgot existed Thanks Stephen!

I pollinated this morning—the photos show the leftover pollen, the flower with the pollen mass just seated in the little opening and another with the pollen fully seated within the opening. I didn’t wake up today knowing I was going to be doing this, but I got the go ahead from the source—having fun more than anything!

Update: Both openings that the pollen was inserted to have now swollen shut and the fragrance has almost entirely disappeared! ‘We have liftoff’

What plant is the pollen from? Another Doris’s Choice, or something else?

Ctsm. John C. Burchett x Ctsm. Karen Armstrong; curious to see if I can actually pull this off
