Cycnodes Taiwan Gold not dormant yet

Here are some photos of the Cycnodes Taiwan Gold that I picked up at an orchid show today that still has all of its foliage. If I've learned anything from watching your videos, Stephen, I can see now that the leaf bracts are turning whitish and look like their drying off. What confused me was the fact that the moss it's potted in is wet. It looks like it might be on its way to dormancy, but given the fact that it's mid-February, I'm at a loss as to what to do with it. A good half of my other catasetums are already pushing out new growths. Guidance please!

I also bought a Cycnodes Taiwan Gold, likely from the same vendor. Mine has all of its leaves as well and was potted in wet moss which also confused me.

Since mine had a new growth, I kept it well watered these last few days thinking it was time, but I now think I might've made a big mistake as it might be still too early.. I'm also confused as to what to do at this point.

It is my first time growing anything Catasetinae. Hopefully someone can advise us both!

Nobody's responded so I'll contribute speculation.

Grown in year-round warm climates, like Hawaii, they can be watered all year. These probably came from such a growing environment. Since it's just about Spring for you, continue keeping them warm and watering. They will grow this season and go dormant late next Fall.

I would keep it dry and try to expose them to cold (50 degrees or so) temps to trigger dormancy. Basically, treat them like an import (maybe they are?). Here's my chat with Fred Clarke about importing Catasetums (and other orchids) that might be helpful.

Hi Stephen, should this "hard winter" treatment be applied to plants that already have a new growth? Will the new growth pick up where it left off when it's time to wake them up again?

What are the consequences of keeping it warm and watered for the rest of the year and "skipping" dormancy?

No need for a hard winter with a new growth! Just keep it dry and water as normal when the new roots are 4 inches or more longer.

Hi! Yes, DCOS was where I got this baby. I was surprised at how many good plants they still had when I arrived on Sunday morning, like this cycnodes!

Thanks for the link to that interview. I am going to give the bulb a hard rest starting now. It is currently sitting in front of a window that generally gets down to about 50F at night right now. If it is an import, then the lower light levels should also trigger something. Worse comes to worse, Taiwan Gold will have a slightly shorter growing season this coming year than its other catasetum friends.
