For once, I managed to study the newest SVO list and refrain from ordering. Plenty of wonderful things but I'm out of space!

Time to cull the weak plants.

I'd love to trade divisions as my plants mature. I definitely didn't know about the classifieds page but hope to use it when I have things to share.

Got my plants yesterday and they look very nice! For those of you who have gotten SVO's 3" seedlings before, when should I expect these to flower? Next year? Two years? Further out?

Depends on the hybrid and specifically on the plant. I’ve had 3” seedlings bloom within weeks (not catasetinae). I know some of his listed Catasetinae could bloom next year (he even mentions it on the notes) and some might take several years. If they get a good growing season I don’t see why some of the late winter bloomers wouldn’t bloom this or early next year. It just depends, so I would just focus on giving good care to all… even siblings can bloom at different times the same way that human siblings may reach puberty at slightly different ages.

What Mateo says is correct, but generally I'd expect two years. The Cycnoches will bloom on smaller plants, so this year or next is possible for those ones.

got everything on my list except the Dragons Tail x Susan Fuchs but in its place was a different Darkonium hybrid (and a bonus). up-potted into 4" and right into the intensely bright LED zone...

Immediate up-potting in spagnum and 4 inch pots? is that what others would suggest? I’m usually a wait and let them adjust kind of grower, but these are my first catasetinae.

If so, would you suggest removing old spagnum, or just packing new to fill the space? Tight pack or loose or in between?

I am told that the 3" pots that Fred keeps are up-potted now to get better growth this season.

I cleared out some of the styrafoam at the bottom of the 3" pots, removed a little bit of the mossy green sphagnum on top (the rest is just fine and not breaking down), and just packed it in tight to a 4" pot. I grow a lot of things in sphagnum and always pack tight. completely different moisture properties if you loose-pack sphagnum and years ago when I did that it had always turned into a disaster.

I don't think you have to do this but I'm expecting more roots to fill in the space and better growth, and maybe next year I can slip them into a larger 4" rose pot. and maybe a few might spike next year?

The media in the pots from Fred are fresh and will last for a few more years, so no need to repot. Dropping these into larger pots is unlikely to have a measurable effect, so its not important to do so.

I also want to mention that up potting is not wrong! I don't see a downside to up potting if care is taken not to damage roots. I'm just clarifying that its not critical or even needed. Personally, I'll repot into the PET method in February while the plants are fast asleep.

Okay then I won’t rush to repot! I watched your video on PET, very interesting and thank you! I am sorry if I missed it, but what does PET stand for?

I'm curious about potential results (or lack thereof) with up-potting now as opposed to next year. Like I said, I'm told Fred up-pots these now. I have them in clear 4" pots so I should be able to see any substantial root growth by the end of the growing season. It is a lot more volume than the 3" pots for sure. I guess the only way to tell for sure is to get a ton of 3" pots, up-pot half of them...and sadly I don't have the room for that!
