Oh, nice! That's an early spike, so maybe you can get two this year. Such a great species as well. One of my favorites.

Thanks, Stephen! I was hoping you would eventually add your input to this particular post. I thought that spike was pretty early and that's why I wanted to confirm it. Possibly two spikes this season? I'll take them!
I know this species is one of your favorites. In fact, you were the one who inspired me to add this particular cycnoches to my collection. If you don't mind, I'd like to keep you posted on my progress with it

Hey, Stephen! Here's an update on my Cyc. herrenhusanum. As you'll see in pic#1, that first spike I was so excited about earlier aborted. I don't know the reason why. However, a second spike formed very soon after. It only had 5 buds, though. Two of them blasted, leaving the three you see in pic#2.
The buds look very small to me. Are the flowers small to begin with? Also, this is a young plant. Do you think that's why it's putting out such a small spike with a low number of buds? Keeping my fingers crossed for this one!

Its rare that a young Cycnoches put out a second spike, so the low flower count is likely related to that. The flowers are small compared to other Cycnoches species, so it makes sense that the buds are small.

OK, I see. Nonetheless, I'll be very proud to see those 3 blooms on this particular plant Near the beginning of November, I start to gradually prepare everyone for dormancy. Watering stops around Thanksgiving and they all come inside. Can I assume that, as this specimen grows older and goes through another dormancy period, it will begin to act more "normal"? Just curious as to what I should or shouldn't expect.

Marie how much water is your plant getting? That could also feed into spikes aborting and low bud count.

Hi, William I have this cycnoches potted PET style. Our daily temps here have ranged between 90-97 (feels-like temps between 100-107). So, during this hot hot summer, I've kept the organic media moist and the water well full every day. Humidity has been high as well. I feel like the plant has been fairly well-hydrated given the very hot weather this year.
