Cycnoches time to water?
Default Cycnoches time to water?

This is my first experience coming out of dormancy with my Cycnoches Golden Showers. Is it too soon to water? I can’t see how long the roots are, and most of the related pictures I’ve found online are for catasetums…. It’s bone dry in LECA now.

I’m thrilled there are TWO growths coming!

Is the root that is showing (in the second picture) from last year? If it is new, then it would be pretty close to ready. But if it is from last year, I think that you still need to wait. It follows the same pattern as Catasetums. My Cycnoches (and Mormodes) run a bit later than the Catasetums.

The growths still are fairly small. Do I see new roots on the top of the medium? If so, those are definitely still very small. If they are the first roots definitely wait. If they are the start of a second flush of roots, then much closer to watering time. I think no harm in waiting a bit more. Hope that isurus79 will check in on this, he's far more knowledgeable than I am.

The white root just below the threads on the jar is new. All of the old roots are dull and grey. Yes, it looks like additional roots are now developing. Those are very recent arrivals.

I would keep it dry for a bit longer!
