Clowesia Rebecca Northen 'Hilltop' x 'Grapefruit Pink'
Excited for my first Clowesia blooms ever - I see why people enjoy them! The frills are great but I'm not too sure of the picotee. The fragrance is complex and it reminds me of Ricola cough drops or sushi ginger... smells great though!
A couple bloomed with red frills on a separate spike. Not sure if it was a first time "mishap"

I like the picotee... My 'Grapefruit Pink' is blooming, quite pale. So the other cultivar must have had a lot more color. I think it's so cool that these bloom while they're still quite dormant. (I have one teensy little new growth, will be at least 2 months before it is close to ready for water, maybe more.
You might need to "qualify" location a bit differently... it's sure not cold THIS week!

I love that it blooms on dormant bulbs. It's very dramatic! I have another clone "Mikkabi" that just started its new growth. The psuedobulbs on that one seem to come off very easily...
And it's definitely not "cold" for people down here this week haha. I still laugh when people in San Diego wear full winter coats when its 60 oF outside...

It was 86 deg F at my place yesterday...But I have been wearing fleece shirts all winter, I have switched to my "spring" wardrobe for at least a couple of days I freely admit to being a hothouse flower...

Oh I just meant that people here have a very different temperature tolerance.
I work near the coast (70s-80s this week) and people here are still in long sleeves - long pants. I don't get it haha.
I come from a place... much colder. My parents just sent me a photo of a view from their home...

Excellent flowering. I like the fimbriated lip also. Congrats on the blooms--and for leaving your snow-covered origins behind. I was the popular guy on the street a couple of days ago who used the snow blower to clear everyone's driveways and sidewalks. So I envy your escape.

Thanks, these are quite nice. The fragrance has markedly improved today and its filling up my house with a fruit candy like scent. I need more Clowesias now,,,
Now that I'm in so called "paradise", I miss seasons, rain, and snow! Also trees.
