Catasetum osculatum Female
Default Catasetum osculatum

First bloom, got it from Sunset Valley Orchids just about a year ago. (Up-potted in January of this year) This is Catasetum osculatum ('Kisses' x self) I expect that blooms will get even better as the plant matures, but not bad for a young plant!

Beautiful flowers, Roberta. How big are they?

Thanks! Flowers about 9 cm/3.5 inches across. Medium size for a Catasetum. Plant is about 43 cm/17 inches tall, two pseudobulbs (one from last year, one current) so it still has some growing to do. I expect that once it matures the flowers will be flatter and better presented, with a longer inflorescence.

Fascinating flowers. The shape is intriguing--and I can see where the species gets its name. Congratulations on your flowering.
