Default Clo. Black Jade

A couple of weeks or so ago, I mentioned in another thread that buds of my Clowesetum Black Jade are developing.

Not long now I think before the buds open. Uploading some pics of the buds - starting from when they were little.

The buds began to open yesterday - and opened much more today. The green colour is nice.

I think they should have just called it Jade or Green Jade ------- not Black Jade heheh.

Very interesting! I smelled the flowers for the first time this morning - only to see whether it had any scent in the first place, and to see what the scent would be like if it had any.

The scent was unmistakably the same as regular type mint leaves smell.

Absolutely no detection of 'anise' scent at all. Only mint smell. Surprised even myself hehehe

Somebody else from orchidboard - many years ago - mentioned anise scent in their Black Jade. So it might depend on the individual - since Black Jade is a hybrid ------- and could possibly depend on other things too. I didn't smell anise for mine at all though. However, my recently flowered Fdk. After Dark 'Baker's Cheetah' definitely had anise type smell.

I looked this one up, and there are some cultivars with dark red on the lip - might have been the first one to bloom and so inspired the name. It's Cl. russelliana (very green) x Ctsm. expansum (some cultivars are green with yellow throat, but some have a lot of red... so the color of the hybrid would depend on which Ctsm. expansum was used, any cross of different individuals of the two species would have the same name)
