Some flowers opened up more now.
The patterns are quite nice to watch. I took pics #3 and #4 with a flash.
The other pics #1, #2 and #5 (the last one) had the flash turned off.

I had to use those orchid clips to keep the flower spike up a bit --- to stop the flowers from touching the ground hehehehe

Wow, nice. Thanks for the name of the hybrid. I guess this is an intergeneric.

Most welcome tindo ------- and your guess is a good one! At this link here ------ mentions three-way cross. One of Fred Clarke's well-known results is the very dark coloured (can even look black coloured to our eyes) flowers of some of his Fdk. After Dark hybrids - such as 'SVO Black Diamond' and 'SVO Black Pearl'.
SVO Black Pearl is readily available for the public to grow, while SVO Black Diamond isn't commercially available, and maybe not too many people have SVO Black Diamond.

Gorgeous! The variation in the various cultivars of Fdk. After Dark is amazing. From the almost black 'Black Pearl' to the red spots of 'SVO' to the brown of this one to 'Morning After' which is green with just a tinge of red. All are Mo. Painted Desert x Ctsm. Donna Wise, but each of the hybrids in the background of these come from species with different forms.
The reason that 'Black Pearl' is readily available is that Fred mericloned that one, probably more than once He may have also cloned 'SVO' but most of the others weren't, or done only once, so once divisions are gone they're gone (a genetically identical cultivar can exist only by division or by cloning). He doesn't do a lot of cloning, new hybrids are so much more interesting to create.

Totally agree Roberta! The variations that come from Fdk are spectacular. I'm growing 'SVO', 'Baker's Wine Sunset', 'Baker's Cherry Madness', and some other Fdk mericlones ----- and looking forward - hopefully this season - to share more Fdk flower pics.
I took a couple more pics this morning, with flash - to get some light onto the flower. The hanging flowers sometimes don't allow the sun light to shine into or onto it, casting a shadow.
The flash photos gives more 'glossy' looking pics than usual hehehe

I really do not fancy the foliage of Catasetum, but the blooms truly are something special.
Very nicely grown!

I'd second that opinion! Kind of like Cymbs in my opinion... I sure don't grow them for the foilage. The nicest thing about the Ctsm (which I'm just now growing for first time) is when the leaves look like crap, you get a fresh start each year.
SPark... I agree about the flash, but the pics without flash, to me, show a nicer coloration in my eye. Either way, very, very nice one.

It's true that the catasetum type orchids turn over a 'new leaf' each season hehe. Nice and fresh leaves.
The attached photos captured this morning are shown on the next page.
